Some of the Manchester City supporters were attacked ahead of Wednesday's 3-2 Champions League win at Red Star Belgrade which has forced the club to work with police in order to ensure the safety of their fans.

Buses were also arranged by the club to safely transport their fans to the venue, and they were held back by police after the match as a safety measure before leaving the stadium.

Pep Guardiola hails Rico Lewis

City’s manager Pep Guardiola hailed Rico Lewis after the academy graduate gave yet another excellent performance in the Champions League.

“He’s just 19 years old last month,” said Pep.

“It’s incredible that he is always seven or eight out of 10.

“Always his ability is unbelievable, he can play in multiple positions, left, right and centre and in the pockets and defensively he is so good.

“We are not scared when we ask him to play.

“Mateo and Matheus have something we don’t have, too. They are special players and it’s important they are back for our future.”
